Chichen Itza

Platform of the Eagles and the Jaguars

Shade Tree over the Platform

Image description

The tree growing at the base of the eastern stairs shows the passage of time on these monuments. This tree was not removed during its restoration, and provides a great spot for shade while you can see most of the northern sector of the city.

One of the stone carvings can be seen on the same wall as the stairs, while on the northern facade (to the right of this picture) you can see stones filling the gap where another carving has been removed. Visible at the top of the stairs (just under the leaves) is a jaguar head, a common decoration to many Toltec structures.
