El Caracol

View from the Front

Image description

Although partially eroded by time and the elements, the curved roof makes evident why many believe this to be an ancient observatory. In fact, it is the action of the erosion that gives it this curved appearance similar to a modern observatory. The shape of the original structure was square.

The wide stairs visible here are part of the base of the overall structure. The dome sits on another structure on top of the base.
